Katy Perry’s New Album ‘143’ and Release Date Announced

After months of rumors about her sixth studio album, Katy Perry has finally announced her next project titled 143will appear in the fall of this year.

The 39-year-old pop star took to social media on Wednesday (July 10) to reveal the album’s cover — a cosmic photo of a nearly naked Perry seemingly floating in the center of a blue-and-red cosmos. In the caption, she also confirmed that the project will be released on September 20, four years after her last album, Smile, arrived in 2020.

For those curious about the album’s wordless title, “143” is code for “I love you.” The term’s use dates back to the early 20th century, according to Dictionary.com.

“My intention was to create a bold, upbeat, joyful dance-pop album with the central message being the symbolic number 143, expressing love,” Perry said in a statement.

143 will be headed by the recently retired American idol the judge’s previously announced single, “Woman’s World,” which will be released on July 11 and was produced by Dr. Luke, Vaughn Oliver, Aaron Joseph and Rocco Did It Again!. A day before the album announcement, she shared a teaser for the song’s music video, which features high-energy vocals and sultry shots of Perry as a modernized Rosie the Riveter in a red, white, and blue string bikini.

According to the press release, the song will fit in with most of the songs on the album. 143 — “a sexy, fearless return to form for the versatile musician.”

Fans can also expect “empowering and provocative pop anthems” with “lots of heart – and lots of BPM.”
