Granada schools announce upcoming school schedule : The Prowers Journal

Prowers County Schools RE-1, Granada announced the opening of school for the 2024-2025 school year on Monday, August 12. It will be a full day of instruction with lunch served. Classes will start at 7:50 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. The last day of school is Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

Granada Schools will continue to operate on a 4-day week (Monday through Thursday) for the 2024-2025 school year. Calendars will be available online at, in the student handbook, or in the office.

The calendar will consist of 144.5 contact days and 154.5 contract days for the upcoming school year. Holidays, half-days, and days off include: September 2 (Labor Day), September 19 (P/T Conference), November 27, 28 (Thanksgiving Break), December 19-January 6 (Christmas Break), February 6 – P/T Conferences), March 17-21 (Spring Break).

The Prowers RE-1 school board policy states that a child must be 5 years old by July 15tht start kindergarten. Three-year-olds who plan to attend kindergarten must reach that age by June 1saint.Kindergarten registration will continue July 31st and August 1st from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 15:00 Granada Schools offers full-day kindergarten for 3- and 4-year-olds, as well as half-day kindergarten for both ages. We remind all high school and middle school students that their physical exams must be submitted to the Superintendent’s office before they can participate in extracurricular activities. Students may call the High Plains Community Health Center (336-0261) or their primary care physician to schedule an appointment. Granada schools will have mandatory meeting of parents with the athlete on July 31 at 6:00 PM sign all sports participation forms and answer questions. Sports rules are available on the school website, in the school office and in Granada businesses. Parents and athletes must attend the meeting and sign the Sports Rules, Catastrophic Accident Form and Medical Authorization Form and return a current medical examination before starting training.

Returning 11th and 12th grade students will register for classes July 31st between 9:00-12:00 and 13:00-15:00 second and first year students will register August 1 at the same hours. Students in 7t and 8t The class does not need to register for classes before school starts, but can complete other paperwork during the same deadlines. Open recruitment for new students and returning students to fill out the documents will be July 31st and August 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Parents/guardians of new students must bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate, social security card, and immunization records.

Preschool and Kindergarten Review – We ask that parents of preschool and kindergarten children contact the school at 734-5492 and let us know that their child is attending school this year. This information will be used for planning purposes.

Students traveling by bus must contact the bus driver or the school for approximate pickup times.
