Muhammad Ali Musical to Have World Premiere in Chicago

Alia new musical celebrating the life and legacy of heavyweight boxing champion and philanthropist Muhammad Ali, will make its world premiere in Chicago at the James M. Nederlander Theatre from April 22 to May 18, 2025.

The series tells the story of the iconic athlete from the beginning of his career as Cassius Clay to his transformation into Muhammad Ali. It is directed and written by Clint Dyer (Get Up, Get Up! Bob Marley Musical), with original music by composer Teddy Abrams and choreography by Rich + Tone Talauega (MJ Musical). Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest) is a co-songwriter and record producer.

The creative team also includes scenic designer Anna Fleischle, costume designer Emilio Sosa, lighting designer Jen Schriever, video/projection/media designers Tal Yarden and Gino Ricardo Green, sound designers Benjamin Grant and Kai Harada, orchestrator/arrangers Teddy Abrams and Sean Mayes, assistant director Asmeret Ghebremichael, music supervisor Sean Mayes, creative dramaturg Fred Carl, special boxing consultant and fight coordinator Michael “Silk” Olajide Jr. and retired assistant music producer Casey Benjamin.
