Latvian Days brings pop-rock band Sudden Lights to Tartu’s Car-Free Avenue | News

From July 11-13, a celebration of Latvian culture in all its beauty and diversity will take place on Tartu’s Car-Free Avenue (Autovabaduse puiestee). Among the expected attractions will be a free live performance by Latvian pop-rock band Sudden Lights on Friday evening.

The Latvian Days festival in Tartu 2024 includes a range of activities, live performances and other opportunities to explore the cultural heritage of several Latvian cities.

The event will start on Thursday, July 11, and its main attractions will be the cities of Valmiera and Cēsis, handicrafts from Rūzele and a performance by the famous Latvian chef Mārtiņš Sirmais.

On Thursday night, Latvian indie band Carnival Youth will perform live at Car-Free Avenue from 8:30pm on Thursday evening. Estonian electro-pop duo I Wear* Experiment will open the show with their own live performance starting at 7pm

Friday will feature a disc golf tournament and a papermaking master class, followed by an evening concert by Latvian pop-rock band Sudden Lights.

Sudden Lights is one of the fastest growing, most sought after and streamed artists in Latvia. They play a mix of pop rock with light indie accents. Their music is characterized by catchy melodies perfect for dancing with a melancholic note or two along the way, all permeated with youthful energy.

In 2023, the band won Supernova, the Latvian song contest, with the hit “Aijā”, which gave them the chance to represent Latvia at Eurovision. Unfortunately, they only made it to the semi-finals in Liverpool. However, they will soon return to the UK, and in December, their performances in Birmingham and London were announced.
